First Week at The Lodge
Dear Internet Diary,
My first week at The Lodge was such a whirlwind of fun!
I opened my newsstand, The Lodge, on May 29th, 2026 with a bundle of luxury sticks, freshly charged under the Sagittarius full moon. I had a stack of freshly printed Beaver News and big ol’ grin and open heart.
Another beaver stopped by within the first hour, bringing me a bouquet of sticks and purple poppies. We hung them underneath the Beaver News for all to enjoy. After spending a few hours talking with people and enjoying the sights and sounds of this bustling city sidewalk, I was approached by a gang on poets. They had heard about a Beaver coming into the city but were skeptical if I was real, or a figment of a deranged writer’s imagination. Needing to see for themselves, 5 or 6 of them came to see if I existed. Upon a satisfactory finding of my physical participation in their three-dimensional plane of sensory perception, they took turns reading poems about beavers. It was such a joyful and thrilling experience to witness sacred silliness embraced by so many new friends over the course of several hours. The poets invited me to an Open Mic nearby at KALW, an NPR member station in the Bay Area. I listened to amazing poetry, music, and sang a song from a fellow Pigeon River native and a personal hero of mine, Dolly Parton. The song was “Here You Come Again” from her 1977 album of the same name.
Such an electric send off into my latest venture in a new environment was bittersweet. I wanted to keep returning but new that I was needed back East for official beaver business. Off I went on a month long adventure, full of happy memories and thoughts of how to create more when I return.
xoxo,
Beaverella Beaver
